Position Summary

The Control and Instrumentation Maintenance Technicians (CI) are responsible to the Maintenance CI Supervisor for safe and effective maintenance of all control and instrumentation systems and equipment within the Bahrain LNG Import Terminal.
The CI Maintenance Technicians will have a background in the maintenance of control and instrumentation equipment associated with hydrocarbon process systems, ideally with previous experience in an LNG Terminal or a similar environment such as an oil refinery, gas to liquids plant, chemical plant etc. Marine, onshore or offshore experience is acceptable provided evidence of relevant knowledge and training can be demonstrated. Relevant experience in the maintenance of other heavy industrial process systems where hydrocarbons are present such as power plants and aluminum or steel works may also be considered.
The CI Maintenance Technicians will be able to demonstrate their ability to work independently of direct supervision, whilst ensuring that they comply with the required safe systems of work at all times.
The role is an expat position working 5 days per week and providing out of hours and weekend cover as required to provide the capability to respond to emergencies and breakdowns 24/7.

Major Responsibilities

Ensure that all maintenance tasks are carried out safely.

Responsible for the maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of all instrumentation and control system equipment.
Conduct all work safely and in compliance with control of work, permit to work, lock out/tag out and all Bahrain LNG Import Terminal Operations and Maintenance policies and procedures, industry standards and best practice.
Monitor pressure, flow and temperature controllers, process limited controllers and gas analysis equipment to detect defects and performance deterioration and report such issues in a timely manner to allow remedial action to be scheduled accordingly.
Inspect, test, operate, calibrate, configure, troubleshoot, maintain and repair instrument and control systems and equipment.
Use and understand the principles of safe operation of all test equipment and special tools required for maintenance work.
Work with as-built drawings, specifications, P&IDs, C&E diagrams and vendor manuals to request permits to work and troubleshoot operational issues.
Isolate systems for maintenance or inspection as part of Permit to Work and Lock-out/Tag-out.
Carry out preventative maintenance inspections on Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Distributed Control and Instrumentation Systems (DCIS) and Fire and Gas Detection Systems (FGS) and report findings for inclusion in the CMMS.
Carry out calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of hydrocarbon compliance analyzers and associated control systems.
Inspect, maintain and adjust measuring and control devices, signal transmitters, meters and signal pickups.
Carry out calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of control valves and systems.
Carry out breakdown maintenance and repair on electrical, control and instrumentation equipment and systems and report findings including root cause and effects for inclusion in the CMMS.
Maintain awareness of health, safety and environment issues, minimizing or mitigating risks to persons, property or emissions to the environment always.
Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team as directed.
Provide technical feedback to Supervisors and Managers to continually improve the maintenance methodologies employed and ensure optimized utilization of the maintenance effort.
CI Maintenance Technicians may be required to assist with connection and disconnection of Marine Loading Arms, Ship/Shore Link and other tasks during LNGC unloading and transfer operations.

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering Diploma, recognised professional engineering qualification with relevant training and experience or completion of a recognised apprenticeship/industrial training scheme with appropriate vocational qualifications and experience.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintaining Control and Instrumentation systems and equipment associated with heavy industrial processes with at least 2 years’ experience involved in the maintenance of C&I systems for hydrocarbon processes within an oil refinery, chemical plant, gas terminal or similar facility. Previous experience with LNG, LPG, cryogenic liquids and/or high-pressure gas preferred.
Knowledge, experience and understanding of Distributed Digital Control and Instrumentation Systems (DCIS). Previous experience of Yokogawa systems preferred.
Knowledge, experience and understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Levels (SIL), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD) and Fire and Gas detection systems (FGS).
Knowledge, experience and understanding of Communication Systems; UHF and VHF Radio, PABX, Public Address; Access Control Systems and CCTV Systems.
Experience of marine terminal operations and offshore support vessel operations.
Proven interpersonal skills.
Excellent English reading, written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Qualities

Ability to work independently.
Experience of Pre-commissioning, Commissioning and Start-Up of LNG Terminal or petrochemical/hydrocarbon process facilities.
Knowledge and experience of LNG re-gasification processes and Nitrogen Production facilities.
Health & Safety training, qualifications and experience.
