Restaurant Waitress: Job Description
A Waitress (or Server) is the face of the restaurant. The primary goal is to provide an exceptional dining experience by managing the flow of service, ensuring order accuracy, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer Service & Hospitality
- Greeting & Seating: Welcome guests with a friendly attitude and escort them to their tables.
- Menu Expertise: Explain daily specials, answer questions about ingredients, and provide recommendations based on dietary preferences.
- Order Management: Accurately record food and drink orders and enter them into the Point of Sale (POS) system.
2. Service Execution
- Food Delivery: Serve meals and beverages promptly, ensuring they meet quality standards and the guests' specific requests.
- Table Maintenance: Check in on guests frequently to refill drinks, clear empty plates (pre-bussing), and address any issues.
- Payment Processing: Prepare final bills, process cash or card payments, and return change or receipts accurately.
3. Operational Duties
- Side Work: Perform opening and closing tasks, such as rolling silverware, refilling salt/pepper shakers, and cleaning menus.
- Cleanliness: Ensure the dining area remains tidy and follow all health and safety protocols regarding food handling.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with kitchen staff (BOH) and fellow servers to ensure smooth service during "rushes."
